Bioidentical Hormone Therapy

Bioidentical Hormone Therapy Services Offered in Minot, ND

What are hormones and why are they important?  Hormones are chemical messengers that are made by the endocrine glands that act to control certain actions of cells and organs. These chemical messengers control and coordinate different body functions. Hormones work in a lot of different ways to control our body’s internal metabolism (or homeostasis), energy levels, reproduction, growth/development, along with response to injury, stress and the environment.

When your body may have a hormonal imbalance you have too much or too little or one more hormone. While some hormonal imbalances may not impact your health, other hormonal imbalances can negatively affect your quality of life with problems like:

  • Acne
  • Anxiety
  • Bladder symptoms
  • Brain fog
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Feelings of depression
  • Hot flashes
  • Join paint
  • Lack of focus
  • Lack of sleep (3-4am wake up?)
  • Memory loss
  • Mood swings
  • Night sweats
  • Sexual performance problems
  • Tension and irritability
  • Weight gain

Hormonal levels rise and fall naturally, throughout your day, throughout your life, but certain periods of life can cause dramatic hormonal fluctuations and one of them is Menopause and/or Andropause.

Andropause affects about 38% of men over 45 and is the gradual decline in testosterone levels.  Andropause especially may affect those with high blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes and other chronic diseases.

Menopause is the permanent end of female menstruation and typically happens in 3 states. Perimenopause, Menopause, and Postmenopause.

  • Perimenopause is typically 8-10 years before menopause as ovaries gradually produce less estrogen. (typically your 40’s)
  • Menopause is when ovaries have stopped releasing eggs and stopped producing most of their estrogen.
  • Postmenopause is the term given when after 12 consecutive months (a full year) without a period and females remain in postmenopause for the remainder of their life.

Throughout the stages of menopause as less estrogen is produced most women don’t “get over” or “get through” and remain asymptomatic.

Legacy Health Clinic will only be working to balance testosterone, estrogen, and thyroid function. Testosterone is present in both men and women, protects bones, brain, breast, and heart. Estrogen is present in both men and women and has over 400 functions in the body, bones, memory, brain are just a few.

There are a variety of homeone replacement methods available and a variety of hormone types available.  We have chosen bioidentical hormone replacement in pellet form.  Why did we make that decision?  Bioidentical hormones are natural plant-derived compounds, similar molecular structure to human hormones and the delivery of hormones makes a difference.

Hormone imbalance can occur in men or women of any age but hormone therapy is not a one size fits all and should be very individualized and include a requirement of routine lab work to ensure optimal body functions, checking more than just hormone levels.
